Understanding and Selecting the Right Pump for Your System

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Pumps are a major cost in water system construction and operation. Thus, pump selection specific to water system needs is critical for the reliable and economical delivery of water. Installing the right pump can be the difference between success and failure.

Join Forester University for this live, educational, two-part webinar featuring returning speaker Dr. Glenn O. Brown (Regents Professor Emeritus, Oklahoma State University)—who has taught pump theory for 33 years and has engineering experience in both fresh and waste water systems.

We will review the basic theory of pumps, including reading the pump curve, developing the system curve, determination of the operating point, preventing cavitation, and multiple pump system performance. We will also cover the difference between pump types to assist in pump selection.

While focused on high flow water and waste water systems, this material is also applicable to pumping of other liquids and any flow rate.

Learning Objectives
Attendees can expect the discussion and education of the following learning objectives:

  • Know the different types of pumps
  • Understand the pump curve
  • Select the appropriate pump
  • Determine the operation point flow as a function of the pump and the system in which it is placed
  • Ensure that a pump will not cavitate
  • Comprehend multiple pump systems
