Industrial Stormwater Treatment as Early Action Initiatives on Superfund Sites

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The EPA develops studies and options for remediating selected superfund sites. Remediation is usually completed on impaired waterbodies, impacted by legacy contamination due to decades of industrial activity and associated proximity runoff. Even with aggressive remediation, there is likely some recontamination that will occur. The question is: how do we prevent this and establish long-term expectations for stormwater controls during and following cleanup?

Join Forester University for this live, educational webinar featuring speaker Kristine Sommer (CPESC, QISP, QSD, and Business Development Manager at Clear Water Services). Her presentation will focus on two case studies of industrial facilities located along impaired waterbodies that are in the early action phases of Superfund Cleanup and are utilizing active treatment systems to comply with stringent water quality regulations associated with Early Action cleanup initiatives.

The case studies will contrast one site that has been complying with these regulations for a decade with another site that has just implemented treatment. We will discuss how lessons learned were applied and Early Action Initiatives for source control can be met on other similar sites.

Learning Objectives
By participating in this webinar, attendees will:

  • Learn about different processes in the design of a treatment system and developing a treatment system approach
  • Develop an assessment of risk, based on the level of automation, water quality monitoring, and data management
  • Explore different stormwater treatment control options considered under each case study
