Introduction to Geotechnical Services

Offering services aimed at demystifying and working the earth, geotechs are vital to any land development project. But with the breadth and depth of geotechnical work and the range of hazards associated with geotechnical conditions and processes, no project is free from geotechnical risk. Proper geotechnical evaluation and cost-risk assessment can save a project from expensive delays and overruns.

Join returning speaker, Rod Johnston, for the first session in our Geotechnical Waltz Master Class Series exploring geotechnical services and attributes of a good geotech, the range of hazards associated with geotechnical conditions and processes, and how to minimize geotechnical risk to avoid serious delays and overruns.

We’ll begin this online training webinar by outlining the geotechnical services typical to land development and the importance of geotechnical professionals for any earthwork and excavation project. We’ll then delve into the topic of risk as it relates to earthwork, soil variability, grading, and utilities, and lay out methods and techniques to determine the amount of risk that is tolerable for a project and, more importantly, at what cost risk is worth reducing. We’ll wrap up by discussing how to choose the right geotech, the ins and outs of consolidating geotechs on one project, and items to consider when subcontracting out geotechnical work.

Learning Objectives
