Construction and Maintenance of Permeable Pavement

Permeable pavements can be built to last…if you build them right. We can design permeable pavements for a long service life, but if they are not built in accordance with the design or maintained correctly for the type of pavement, they may not last.

Join David Hein, P. Eng., for the third session in our Permeable Pavement Master Class Series exploring the construction elements that may negatively impact the performance of pavements, as well as the primary factors contributing to the long-term functional and structural performance of pavements (e.g., parking lots to highways).

In this webinar, we'll discuss the key construction features, maintenance considerations, and best practices that directly impact permeable pavement performance. Examples of both good and poor construction practices will be provided.  Within this discussion, Hein presents photographs and case studies of real-world projects demonstrating the common problems associated with permeable pavement construction accompanied by examples of good (and poor) construction and maintenance choices. Finally, we'll discuss how to identify these potential issues in your permeable pavement design and construction and how to avoid them to better ensure the cost-effective use of your transportation investments.

Learning Objectives
Attendees can expect the discussion and education of the following learning objectives.

  • Understand common construction features important to the performance of permeable pavements.
  • Understand the design and recognition of specification and construction activities that can improve the performance of pavements.
  • Understand, communicate, and promote good construction and maintenance practices.
  • Learn inspection techniques to ensure good construction, and to develop maintenance plans for the future.
