Stream Restoration Basics & Techniques - 2017

Between balancing the complex physical and biological elements and attaining needed improvements, stream restoration can be challenging.

Join two-time former IECA President, Dr. David T. Williams to brush up on your stream restoration basics in the final part of our Surface Water Master Class Series! In this live two-session presentation, we'll discuss the basic concepts, computations, roles, and techniques of a successful stream restoration project, and how you can put this into action on your team.

Whether new to a stream restoration team or just needing a refresher, this webinar provides an overview of the stream restoration process from development to design. Join Williams as he addresses the major stream restoration design areas and the associated tools, computations, and confirmations, including:

  • Fluvial Geomorphology: Stream patterns (meandering, braided, etc.), physical features of meanders, channel evolution, floodplain features, and stream classification
  • Hydrology: Determining appropriate design discharge for main channel geometric design and overbanks areas
  • Hydraulics and Channel Dimensions: Development of the main channel width, depth and slope
  • Back Check of Design: Confirming resulting hydraulics and flow duration meet all objectives

Additionally, we'll discuss the key elements of successful stream restoration projects and team development. Within this discussion, Williams will outline the best practices for developing timelines and project objectives, and for identifiying design team disciplines and expertise requirements. Finally, we'll take a look at how to best interweave these elements in your planning to produce a sound, successful, and sustainable stream restoration project.

Miss a session? Not a problem! All live sessions are recorded and available on-demand to watch at your leisure.

Learning Objectives
Attendees can expect the discussion and education of the following learning objectives.
