Effective S&EC Plans, Part I - What Designers & Reviewers Need to Understand and Complete

COURSE DESCRIPTION

How effective is your sediment and erosion control plan for a construction site? Join Jerald Fifield, Ph.D., PH, CPESC, CISEC and Tina Evans, PE, CISEC, CPESC for the fifth installment of our advanced Sediment and Erosion Control for Roadway Projects Master Class Series, and the first part of our Effective Sediment & Erosion Control Plans for Roadway Projects mini-seriesWhat Designers and Reviewers Need to Understand and Complete exploring the problems on how to develop, review and implement effective sediment and erosion control plans for construction sites that not only meet local regulations, but are effective in minimizing the discharge of sediment.

While a sediment and erosion control (S&EC) plan may meet regulatory requirements, it’s useless if it is not effective and cannot be implemented by the contractor. Too often S&EC plans meet local regulatory requirements, but are not practical for the contractor to implement on a roadway project, which often creates noncompliant situations. Designers and reviewers need to incorporate their knowledge of sediment and erosion control methods to develop effective S&EC plans which meet regulatory requirements, are practical, and perform once implemented. Effective S&EC plans are those that contractors can implement knowing that designers and reviewers understand BMP limitations, provide sufficient information for timely installation, and take into account that construction sites are dynamic.

Working through Fifield’s best-selling Designing and Reviewing Effective Sediment and Erosion Control Plans (3rd ed.), this fifth module of our Sediment and Erosion Control for Roadway Projects Master Class Series explores the issues in ineffective sediment and erosion control plans, and presents S&EC plan development guidelines to overcome these issues on construction sites. Fifield and Evans present their innovative process of using separate drawings to create effective S&EC plans for construction that are cost effective, logical to implement, and minimize non-compliant situations.

Learning Objectives
Attendees can expect the discussion and education of the following:

  • Understand the problems associated with complex S&EC plans.
  • Identify the need to do planning that results in practical development of S&EC plans.
  • Understand how communication is essential for implementing an effective S&EC plan.
  • Understand how to develop and review plans that are cost effective and practical to implement.

Sediment and Erosion Control for Roadway Projects
Master Class Series
This What Designers and Reviewers Need to Understand and Complete presentation is the fifth module in our Sediment and Erosion Control for Construction Sites Master Class Series. Currently, we are offering the full Master Class Series at a discounted rate.

Master Class Manual

This presentation is based upon and works through the associated chapters in Jerald S. Fifield’s Designing and Reviewing Effective Sediment and Erosion Control Plans (3rd ed.), and is presented as an intermediate to advanced exploration of erosion, sediment, and sedimentation. As such, we recommend purchasing the manual Designing and Reviewing Effective Sediment and Erosion Control Plans (3rd ed.) with the presentation.

* Presentations are scheduled for approximately one hour with a 15-20 minute question and answer session to follow. Presentation may exceed scheduled time.
* Each state and certification agency has different requirements; it is your responsibility to know what they are. Note that 1 PDH = 0.1 CEU.
