COURSE DESCRIPTION

Erosion along our roadways is an epidemic that plagues our maintenance departments AND our wallets. Join Gordon R. Keller for our four session Roadway Erosion Control Best Practices Master Class Series exploring roadway design and erosion control best practices and mitigation measures for well-designed and constructed roads and erosion control that is cost-effective, and produces minimal environmental damage.

This Master Class Series works through the best practices for roadway erosion control with a series of four 1-1.5 hour online presentations and Q&A sessions (4 PDH / 0.4 CEU total) focusing on the following advanced topics.

Sessions include:

  • Low-Volume Roads Engineering Best Practices
    Explore low-volume road design best practices and mitigation measures for well-designed and constructed roads that are sustainable, cost-effective, and produce minimal environmental damage.
  • Sustainable Shallow Slope Stabilization and Erosion Control
    Explore common shallow slope failures (typically found along roadways and sites) and how to effectively counter these with simple, sustainable, and low-cost stabilization and erosion control measures. In this session, we'll outline the issues, the available techniques (e.g. gravity walls, geotextile-reinforced retaining structures, earthwork and drainage options, biotechnical slope stabilization, etc.), and how you can implement these at your site…and fix your shallow slope problems for good.
  • Roadway Surface Drainage and Drainage Crossing Structures
    Explore the challenge of roadway drainage, the essential design elements and requirements, and how you can effectively apply the available solutions (e.g., culverts, fords, bridges, etc.) and design best practices to better handle your surface drainage, reduce your roadway damage and maintenance needs, and improve your roadside water quality.
  • Road Environmental Impacts and Mitigation
    Explore the environmental impact of our roadways, and how you can use Environmental Analysis and engineering best practices within your projects to identify possible environmental issues, evaluate viable options that satisfy user / environmental needs AND are cost-effective, and incorporate key design elements and mitigations to minimize common environmental issues and impacts along your roadways and projects.

 

* Presentations are scheduled for approximately one hour with a 15-20 minute question and answer session to follow. Presentation may exceed scheduled time. 
* Each state and certification agency has different requirements; it is your responsibility to know what they are. Note that 1 PDH = 0.1 CEU.
