Qualifying Rain Events, Sampling, & the Construction Site Monitoring Plan

Are you knee deep in planning your SWPPP Construction Site Monitoring Plan (CSMP) to meet stormwater regulations…or about to be? Your success depends directly on your stormwater effluent sampling and monitoring plan (CSMP). So…are you covered?

Join speaker and author Mike Peters to explore how to design and implement a SWPPP Construction Site Monitoring Plan (CSMP) that thoroughly maps out the stormwater effluent sampling, monitoring, data collection, and analysis at your construction site AND meets compliance.

In this webcast, we'll start with a look at the SWPPP Construction Site Monitoring Plan (CSMP), its key elements, influencing factors, and requirements. We'll define what determines a Qualifying Rain Event (according to NOAA, etc.) and how you can define this for your site. Peters will then walk us through the what, when, where, and how of stormwater effluent sampling. Within this discussion, we'll take a look at the key sampling parameters (pH, turbidity, etc.), considerations (e.g., TMDLs, receiving water risk, NELs, ATS, etc.), and equipment. Peters will outline the best practices for sampling and monitoring of visible and non-visible pollutants, including: scheduling, sample collection and handling, and documentation. Building on this, we'll take a look at the sample data collected, the best practices for analysis, and how you can use this to prove compliance or determine the necessary actions/mitigations at your site. Finally, Peters will weigh in on the different roles (e.g., QSD, WPCM, etc.), plans (e.g., Water Quality Monitoring & Protection Plan, Sampling & Analysis Plan, etc.), requirements, and possible non-compliance penalties pertaining to the SWPPP Construction Site Monitoring Plan.

Learning Objectives
Attendees can expect the discussion and education of the following learning objectives.

  • Learn how to design a SWPPP Construction Site Monitoring Plan (CSMP) that meets compliance.
  • Learn how to determine a Qualifying Rain Event, monitor daily weather, and compile the necessary data.
  • Learn when, where, and how to conduct stormwater effluent sampling, including key parameters, data, etc.
  • Learn how to analyze your sampling results and determine necessary actions/mitigations.
  • Understand the role of the QSD in the Construction Site Monitoring Plan.

* Presentations are scheduled for approximately one hour with a 15-20 minute question and answer session to follow. Presentation may exceed scheduled time.
* Each state and certification agency has different requirements; it is your responsibility to know what they are. Note that 1 PDH = 0.1 CEU.
