Introduction to Zero Waste

Get to the bottom of the Zero Waste! Join Antonia Graham to explore the concept of Zero Waste, the regulations behind the movement, and how to set-up a municipal/local recycling program that achieves Zero Waste at the local level.

In this first class of our 3-session Zero Waste Master Class Series, we’ll dive into the concepts of and regulations behind the Zero Waste movement, including a review of the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the EPA’s Beyond RCRA: Waste and Materials Management in the Year 2020 (e.g., “the 2020 vision”). Working from this framework, Graham will discuss how to set-up a municipal and local recycling program, and the steps to achieve Zero Waste at the local level. Additionally, Graham will review real-world case studies from communities who have both had success with Zero Waste planning, and those who have struggled (and why). Finally, we’ll discuss the importance of planning for and gaining community and elected officials buy-in.
